The Barn

Our project involved the transformation of an old milking byre into a four-bedroom family home, that preserved its agricultural heritage, while offering a contemporary living space, in terms of both design and functionality.

The primary barn now houses the bedrooms, bathrooms, and utility room, while the smaller barn features a spacious kitchen, dining area, and snug with a double-height ceiling. The 'lean-to' section serves as a large living room.

Natural light streams into the kitchen and staircase through skylights on the ridges. A series of skylights illuminate the rear wall of the main living room, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. Upstairs, the bedrooms benefit from ample light provided by large skylights offering uninterrupted views of the valley.

To reduce the environmental impact and utility costs of the house, we installed photovoltaic panels and solar thermal systems on the south-facing roof, as well as an air source heat pump.
